The Pendulum.

Framework · 4 min read

Most personality science wants to put you in a box. The Pendulum reads where you are right now, and what direction you are pulling.

Static type models tell you what you are. The Pendulum tells you whether what you are is currently calibrated for the room you are in. That distinction is the difference between a label and a read.

Every leader operates somewhere on three positions: in range, underutilized, or overextended. The position is not a personality flaw. It is a calibration state. It moves with the role, the moment, the stakes, and the room.

In range.

Your dominant dimension is operating where the work calls for it. You feel like yourself in the room. Decisions land. Stakeholders read you the way you intend. Your strengths are doing the work they were built for.

Underutilized.

The role is not asking for what you actually carry. You are dialing yourself down to fit the seat, performing a smaller version of who you are. You feel quiet, unread, or invisible in conversations where your read is the most accurate one in the room.

Overextended.

You are running your dominant dimension past its useful range. The strength becomes the friction. The leader known for clarity becomes blunt. The leader known for steadiness becomes immovable. The thing that got you here is now the thing that costs you.

Most senior leaders are not broken. They are miscalibrated. The pendulum has drifted from where the role is asking them to operate, and nobody has named the drift out loud.

The YourEdge Insight reveals which position you are sitting in across two of your sixteen leadership domains. The full Report maps the pendulum across all sixteen.
