The 16 Leadership Domains.

Framework · 6 min read

Big Five research is the most validated personality science in the world. It still fails most senior leaders, because nobody has translated it for the work they actually do.

The 16 Leadership Domains are the translation. Calibrated across 100+ coaching engagements with Senior Directors and VPs operating at the ceiling of their roles. Each domain maps a place where the Big Five dimensions become observable in how a leader runs meetings, makes calls, holds stakeholders, and gets read by the room.

The domains are not strengths. They are not weaknesses. They are positions on the pendulum. In range, underutilized, or overextended, depending on what the role is asking for and what the leader is currently giving it.

Why sixteen.

Five Big Five dimensions, each with a behavioral expression that swings between two endpoints. That is the math. The sixteen comes from where senior leadership work actually concentrates: decision velocity, stakeholder calibration, conflict tolerance, ambiguity holding, narrative authority, and the eleven other places the executive role pulls on the underlying wiring.

Why this matters at the senior level.

Below the senior level, generic leadership development works because the work is generic. Above it, the work is specific. The domain that gets you promoted to VP is rarely the one that lets you operate as one. The Pendulum tells you which domains have drifted. The Report names them.

What the map gives you.

Language for what you have been doing well that nobody has named. Language for what has been costing you that nobody has named. The two together are usually what the room has been reading without telling you. Once the read is named, you stop relitigating decisions you already got right and start operating from the version of yourself that the room has been waiting for.

The YourEdge Insight names two of your sixteen domains. The full Report maps all sixteen across your unique leadership signature.
